P153 | Coastal Protection

Project Summary

The Klang Marina Reclamation project at Pulau Indah, Port Klang, Selangor, was commissioned by Perwaja Rolling Mill & Development Sdn Bhd (Maju Holdings Sdn Bhd) with a contract sum of RM7,765,134.00. The project, executed from August 2007 to March 2008, involved significant land reclamation and shore protection works. Due to delays by an earlier subcontractor, SYS was brought in to complete the critical ground platform required for the marina’s construction within a tight timeframe.

SYS’s scope of work included supplying and placing 120,000 cubic meters of sand, 19,800 cubic meters of rock for shore protection, and 17,600 square meters of 1,000g/m² non-woven geotextile. The process began with a grab dredger mobilized to dredge the sandkey and basin in front of the marina, followed by transporting sand from an offshore source using flat-top barges. After placing the sand in the sandkey to build up the platform, geotextile was laid, and rock revetment work was carried out. The remaining sandfill was re-handled onshore to surcharge the filled platform, ensuring a stable foundation for the marina’s development.
