P194 | Dredging & Reclamation

Project Summary

SYS was awarded the contract to excavate and dredge the seabed to create a berthing pocket suitable for load-out barges and vessels with a depth of up to -6.5 meters Chart Datum (CD). The project, managed by Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering Sdn Bhd (MMHE), was conducted from November 2013 to June 2014.

The scope of the work involved dredging to the specified levels, with a total dredged volume of 182,320 cubic meters of soil. The dredging operation included the disposal of materials to approved dumping grounds at Ramunia Shoals, located approximately 37NM from the site. During the dredging process, the materials encountered were primarily soft clay, but the operation also uncovered various concrete debris, spun piles, and steel piles. Concrete debris and spun piles were managed using a dredger grab bucket, while underwater divers were employed for cutting and removal of steel piles.
