P135 | Drainage & Irrigation

Project Summary

The Kuala Lumpur Flood Mitigation Project, focused on enhancing the Kerayong River’s capacity and profile over a stretch of 1.8 kilometers. This stretch extends from the confluence of the Kerayong River and the Kelang River to the discharge point of the SMART Project in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur. The contract for this project was valued at RM165,097,673.93 and was executed over a period of 50 months, from June 2006 to July 2010.

The primary aim of this initiative was to upgrade the river’s channel capacity and modify its bed profile to improve the river’s ability to support the SMART Project’s flood management systems. To address this, SYS undertook and completed various works under Emergency Works and Interim Award packages before the full Design & Build Contract was awarded.

The project required substantial special temporary works, approximately 25,000 tonnes of materials. It also involved cantilever contiguous bore piles of 1.2 meters in diameter totaling 21,281 meters in length and 1.0 meters in diameter totaling 5,678 meters in length. Additionally, 2,744 soil nails were installed, ranging from 10 meters to a maximum of 21 meters in length. A skin wall was constructed along the river at the water level, extending 900 meters on each side.
